"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14
Esther is my favorite book of the bible, the whole book is about the story of Esther, whose proper Hebrew name is Hadassah, a Hebrew teenage girl who was raised by her cousin Mordecai in a time where being a Jew in public was not very safe.
This is in Persia where the king is , King Xerxes, his wife Queen Vashti, we are told that she was a great beauty and one night during a banquent with all the King's top officials, princes, and lords of court, they told him to parade her off for them to see her beauty. Not wanting to disappoint he had a servant go to get her, mind you she was having a banquent of her own and didn't want to be showed off to a bunch of men so she sent the servant back telling the King "no"
You can't say "no" to the king and get away with it. The king's officials said "she must be punished so that all women will not stand up to their husbands." They came up with the plan to banish her and hold a competition to find a new queen. All single, unmarried, beautiful girls in the city were collected and brought to the palace to go through months a beauty regimes and other activities before they were presented before the king for him to choose.
Esther was one of these girls and before she was taken her cousin told her to keep her being a Jew a secret.
to be continued..........
